STATIONARY DECODERS ARE USED TO CONTROL TURNOUTS OR TRACK SWITCHES.  FUNCTION DECODERS, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS FUNCTION ONLY DECODERS, CAN BE INSTALLED IN ROLLING STOCK, SUCH AS PASSENGER CARS OR CABOOSES TO CONTROL LIGHTING, ANNIMATION DEVICES OR OTHER FUNCTIONS. THEY CAN BE USED IN BUILDINGS OR IN OTHER NON-MOVING INSTALLATIONS AS WELL.
